Japan's quiet revolution in luxury. When the LS 400 launched in 1989, it was priced lower than an equivalent S-Class and was demonstrably quieter inside — Lexus famously tested it with a coin balanced on the engine while running to prove vibration levels. It made Mercedes and BMW panic. The current LS has an "Ikebana" interior inspired by Japanese flower arranging, designed by craftspeople who trained in traditional arts.
